They look like tiny human handprints, but we suspect raccoons. The little holes around them are fiddler crab hideaways. This masked bandit and his posse probably had a tasty dinner.

I had no idea raccoons would go hunting for crabs! When I lived in Iowa and had a big garden, they used to snack on my sweet corn. I'd see a little trail of husks leading across the road and a few stalks stripped of their ears!

Deleteso cool! Only recently moved to a place where I can look out the kitchen window and see squirrels. Thrilled! My old place was new construction so there were no mature trees, thus no squirrels.
