Thirty Photos - The Books, 2
After a pretty thrilling run of holiday & New Year's reading, I suddenly found myself not sure what to read next. So I cashed in my latest Powell's gift certificate (thank you, sister!) on some exciting new books: Spectacle, a short story collection by Susan Steinberg (Graywolf Press, 2013); The Dark Corner, a very intriguing-sounding novel set in Appalachia by Mike Powell (University of Tennessee Press, 2012); and This Close, Jessica Francis Kane's forthcoming short story collection (Graywolf Press, March 2013). I also picked up a copy of Holly Goddard Jones' short fiction collection Girl Trouble (Harper Perennial, 2009) to read in companion with her forthcoming novel The Next Time You See Me (Touchstone Books, 2013). Of course, now I must wait for all these to arrive in the mail... so I headed off to the library for the more instant kind of literary gratification. There I was delighted to find copies of two novels I had hoped to get to last year: Lauren Groff's Arcadia (Hyperion, 2012) and Yannick Murphy's The Call (Harper Perennial, 2011); as well as Colm Toibin's short story collection The Empty Family (Scribner, 2011) and Carol Goodman's The Night Villa (Ballantine, 2008). Now the only decision is which to read first.
Happy reading! What's on your nightstand/e-reader/TBR pile?
