We marched in our local Martin Luther King Day parade yesterday- it was an incredible experience, with floats, cars, trolleys, motorcycles and marchers from schools, scouts, civic groups, beauty shops, bike clubs, churches, and so many more. Everyone had a great time, but I'm thinking these guys on rollerskates maybe had the most fun of all.

Love the guy in the red outfit! No missing him in crowd.
ReplyDeleteHe loved the attention, too - well really, they both did. Have several more shots of them working the camera! Am wondering now if I should have posted the whole series, I think they would have more impact.
DeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the UK but we spoke about MLK day in class today (I teach eleven year olds). Some great discussion came out of it.
Thanks! Very cool, and how interesting to consider MLK with an international perspective- would love to have heard all the kids' thoughts.
DeleteThese are great photos--crisp and clear despite the motion, and despite the stop-motion, implying plenty of movement. I especially like the first one, with everyone on wheels and the man on tiptoes. He looks a little incongruous in his fancy uniform. Love the way he has his hand stuck out too. Looks like a security guard taking a break from his job to practise ballet in the street.
ReplyDeleteThanks, yes - the uniform was definitely part of the performance, if you will (we were all hanging out in the staging area - I can only imagine what it was like once they got parading). An amazing group of guys, and once they realized I was taking pictures they put even more energy into it. So much fun.
DeleteNice! Great photos! I love this whole series.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marie! It's a lot of fun.
